Decision to nationalize all registered independent Ebtedayi madrasas

The Ministry of Education has decided to nationalize all registered independent Ebtedayi madrasas in the country. This information was announced by SM Masudul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, at Shahbagh on Tuesday (January 28) afternoon. He said that these madrasas will be nationalized in phases.

Teachers of independent Ebtedayi Madrasas have been protesting for a long time demanding nationalization of independent Ebtedayi Madrasas. Their demands include the withdrawal of the 2008 suspension order of Ebtedayi Madrasas, inclusion of unregistered Madrasas in the Madrasa Education Board's code number, separate policies for independent Ebtedayi Madrasas, permission to teach, recognition, salary and allowances, approval of Policy-2025, taking measures to appoint office assistants like primary schools, and taking measures to approve opening pre-primary classes in independent Ebtedayi Madrasas like primary schools.

Ebtedayi teachers say that currently, the headmaster of 1,519 subsidized madrasas receives a grant of Tk 3,500 and assistant teachers receive Tk 3,300. For 40 years, teachers of subsidized and non-subsidized madrasas have been living a subhuman life in the teaching profession without salary.
